DIY Bikini: Sewing Reversible Bikini Pattern Top Triangle - Beginner friendly

Welcome to the Bikini Design Club, where we bring you the best DIY bikini tutorials. Today, we're focusing on sewing a reversible bikini pattern top. This guide will take you through the process step by step, ensuring you get the perfect fit and finish for your bikini top.

Getting Started

Before we dive into the sewing process, it's important to gather all the necessary materials. You'll need your chosen fabric, a sewing machine, and plenty of straps. Don't forget your bikini pattern top with a small dart under the bust.

Sewing the Darts

The first step in sewing any pattern with darts is to sew the darts themselves. Fold the fabric right side facing together, pin the dart area aligning the area where you've cut the darts, and then sew using a straight stitch. This slightly curved line starts on the outer side of the pattern and comes into the middle of the pattern, the bust point.

Preparing the Straps

Next, fold your straps in half and apply elastic on your overlock. This might take some practice, but you'll get the hang of it. Remember, the goal is to align the elastic and trim the fabric without cutting the elastic.

Combining the Fabrics

Now it's time to start combining your main fabric with your second fabric. For this non-reversible bikini top, we're using a strong power mesh as the second fabric. It's supportive, not overly elastic, and very comfortable. Pin the edges of the bikini top and sew the side seams on your overlock, applying the elastic on the side of your second fabric.

Finishing the Edges

The top of the triangles will be finished with a ring. Insert the ring, fold the fabric tip, and sew using a straight stitch very near the ring. This will secure the ring perfectly.

Creating the Channel

To create the channel for our strap under the bust, fold the fabric inwards, place some pins, and sew using a straight stitch. This creates a channel for the strap to pass through, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit.

Securing the Strap to the Ring

To secure the strap to the ring, fold the strap over the ring and sew using a straight stitch. This secures the strap to the ring and ensures that your bikini top is ready and sewn together.

Final Touches

Trim the excess threads and fabric for a professional finish. One of the details that always gives homemade swimwear an amateur look is when you don't trim properly the excess fabric and threads. So be careful and always do that when you are almost finishing your piece.

And there you have it! Your DIY bikini top is complete. With practice, you'll be able to create a variety of bikini tops in different styles and fabrics. Happy sewing!
